The choice of site for the Rizziconi plant of the EGL Group was the result of a careful study based on an assessment of national and regional energy requirements, which also addressed issues concerning the impact of the infrastructure from an environmental and social point of view. This selection process led to a site being identified on the Gioia Tauro plain which was particularly suitable on account of its excellent logistical location but also because of its potential for future development.

The evaluation of the initiative, in fact, took into consideration many aspects, from the impact on the surrounding environment to the distribution of the residential population, the presence of other industries or sources of emissions, access to roads and the existence of any restrictions with regard to architecture or landscape. After analysing the gathered data, the site in Rizziconi was identified as the most appropriate to accommodate a productive infrastructure whose aim was not only to generate energy for the Italian electricity system, but also to develop synergies for local economic revitalisation, encouraging the development of related industries and facilitating the supply and provision of new investments and new capital.
